"I don't have any experience in writing. Can I still contribute?"
Yes! At Out Of Rage, we accept anyone of all abilities and skillsets. Our publication was created to give young people the experience to write about the music they love. Building up a portfolio is the easiest thing you can do to improve your work.
"How do you choose what artists you cover?"
A lot of the time, we choose artists that we are passionate about.
We do also get a lot of press emails in our inbox, and this can help us set up interviews or aid us in choosing our what we cover.
We also love hearing what music you love to listen to, no genre or artist is off the table!
"What advice would you give to new journalists?"
What I wish I would have been told when I started writing:
-You can get far by asking, even if you think there's only a slim chance of it working out.
-Emailing and making contacts is half of the job.
-Get a work inbox (Trust me, it will be a lifesaver).
"I can't commit to writing every week. Can I still sign up?"
Yes! We understand that life can get very busy at times. At Out Of Rage, we have a policy of doing what we can because we love what we do.
You can participate as much as you like. You can sign up and get experience in the industry.
Also, in most freelance writing positions you can choose how much writing you'd like to take on. We operate in a similar way.
"What sort of articles do you want contributors to write?"
We have two types of articles:
-Submission Pieces- These can be sent in by you at any time, about an gig or album you'd like to review. We can also help you reach out to artists.
-Commission Pieces- We will send out emails about what we would like to see covered, and you can put your name down to take it. These will more likely be interviews and opportunities to go to gigs.
"Do you offer help to improve the articles I write?"
Of course! We offer guidance on writing, wordcounts and top tips to improve you work.
Making sure you get the support you need whilst writing and being a journalist is one of the reasons we set up Out Of Rage.
Email us any time for help, assistance and ways to improve your work. If you want to have a chat with us about journalism feel free to reach out.
